This project is all about our landscape, climate and vegetation. We want to show them to Europe and we want to learn how are those Nature facts in other countries. We'll use science to analyse how the weather changes and how it affects to our places.
Related subjects: Biology , Natural Science , Enviromental Education , Geography, Foreign Languages
Age of students:10 - 12
Tools :Project agenda, email, Other software (Powerpoint, video, photos y drawings), Web edition, TwinSpace, Video conference.
Objectives:To learn about our climate, vegetation and landscape and improve the competence in knowledge and interaction with the physical mean. To learn about the climate, vegetation and landscape of other places in Europe. To analyse how the climate affects in the vegetation during the year. To meet students from other parts of Europe. To improve the linguistic competence in a foreign language (English) using a CLIL methodology.
Work process :We'll work from February, 2014 till the end of the course (June, 2014). Each month will be dedicated to an specific topic:
- February: introductions of each student related with science, talking about what do they like most of studying science. They'll create mini-videos of their introductions including the place where they live (country/city/vegetation/population,etc) The results will be uploaded to the Twinspace and the rest of sites related with the project. The students and the students families will get involved by making them collect pictures about the landscapes and vegetation. All students will meet "virtually" via the Twinspace and videoconferences.
- March, Windy March: create a homemade anemometer. Use it to register the wind speed in our area. Observation and registration of the weather and temperature each day. Presentation of the climate in each part of our country by searching the temperatures and weather in some specific places of the country.
- April: it's about the landscape, creating a video presentations with pictures and explaining how are landscapes we can find in our country.
- May: we'll work with the vegetation of our place, photographing typical plants of the zone and creating presentations. We'll create a drawing contest about typical plants of the country. Later, all the winner drawings will be included in a virtual presentation.
Expected results :Using CLIL methodology,a major engagement and motivation of the students towards the subject of Science is expected. Also, we trust that the linguistic competence and the use of English in new situations in the class (videoconference, chats, etc) will be notably improved.
